Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, booked for allegedly delivering a hate speech against a particular community, is likely to appear before police tomorrow, even as fresh complaints against him poured in for the same.
"He (Owaisi) will appear before the police tomorrow," a senior police officer said, adding that his statements will be recorded in connection with cases registered against him.
When asked if the police anticipated any trouble due to his appearance, the police officer said, "Everything will be taken care of".
Yesterday, Andhra Pradesh DGP V Dinesh Reddy said Owaisi informed police that he was undergoing treatment in London and would appear before it shortly.
As part of a further probe into the two cases, notices were issued against Owaisi on January 4 and he was directed to appear before police in Adilabad district on January 7, as well as the Nizambad II Town police on January 8.
Another notice was served to the MIM legislator by Osmania police asking him to appear before it on January 10.
While two FIRs were registered suo motu at Adilabad and Nizamabad districts, a third case was registered by Osmania University police, following a court directive after Owaisi allegedly used inflammatory language against a particular community last month.
Fresh complaints continued to pour in against Owaisi from Malkangiri and Vanasthalipuram, though no cases have been registered, police said.

Hyderabad : When MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi boarded a flight for London on Christmas with his family he may have been unaware that what he had said a few hours earlier at Nirmal in Adilabad district would cause national outrage and lead to several new cases against him, including that of waging war against India and promoting enmity between communities.
For what Akbaruddin said was nothing new. He has been making such 'hate' speeches for several years and it's just that this time it became scandalous, thanks to the rising power of the Internet and social networks like YouTube and Facebook. "If you think he would be apologetic, you are terribly mistaken," said a source who claimed to know him for two decades.
Rebel with a cause is how many describe Akbaruddin. Born into the politically-powerful family of Salahuddin Owaisi in 1970, he studied till Class X in Hyderabad Public School, then the only elite and up-market school in the city. After completing Intermediate in St Mary's Junior College in Himayatnagar, the Owaisi scion went to Gulbarga to pursue medicine but during his second year of MBBS in 1992-93 answered the call from his family and abandoned studies to begin a career in politics.
The rebel in Akbaruddin soon surfaced. In what is considered virtually impossible even in today's Hyderabadi Muslim society, Akbaruddin fell in love with a Christian girl and insisted on marrying her. Despite opposition from his father Salahuddin, he went ahead and married the girl in 1995 and she began a new life under the name Sabina Farzana. But he was not forgiven by Salahuddin and had to spend the next two years in wilderness.
In 1998, the failing health of Salahuddin forced a rapprochement between the father and the son and Akbaruddin returned to the family fold to take on rival Amanullah Khan from Chandrayangutta assembly constituency and began his electoral career with a bang by defeating him in the 1999 polls. From then on there was no looking back for Akbaruddin. The Akbar as we know him soon blossomed. "I will convert Lal Darwaza into Hara Darwaza," he thundered on one occasion. Lal Darwaza was a Hindu stronghold in the Old City and spawned many leaders like BJP's A Narendra. In 2007, he threatened to carry out the fatwa issued against author Salman Rushdie and behead writer Taslima Nasreen if she set foot in Hyderabad. "See what happened to Taslima and P V Narasimha Rao. They were forced into oblivion for hurting the sentiments of the Muslims," the MIM MLA said at the Nirmal meeting on December 24 as the crowd chanted 'Sher-e-Deccan'.
In April 2011, Akbaruddin survived an attempt on his life by a group led by rival Mohammed Pehalwan. "If my enemies want to eliminate me, they should try using cannon," he said at the Nirmal meeting. It now remains to be seen how the rabble-rousing self-declared champion of Muslims would react to the public outcry and handle the slew of cases that await him when he returns to the city.

Hyderabad: The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) sees a conspiracy by the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh to target its leader Akbaruddin Owaisi by slapping serious charges of waging war against the nation.
Police in Hyderabad, Adilabad and Nizamabad districts, during the last two days, registered three cases against Owaisi for allegedly making hate speeches last month.
The courts in Hyderabad and neighboring Ranga Reddy district directed the police to book Owaisi under Section 153 (A) of the Indian Penal Code for promoting enmity between different groups.
However, the police in Nirmal town of Adilabad district went a step further and registered a case under Section 121 (waging or attempting to wage war against the state).
Police in Nizamabad also booked the MIM legislator under Section 295 A (for deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings).
The police Friday served notice to Owaisi, who is away in London for treatment, summoning him for questioning at Nirmal police station on Jan 8 and at Nizamabad on January 9.
The 42-year-old firebrand, younger brother of MIM chief and Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi, faces arrest in the case.
However, sources in MIM said he is not likely to return to India before Jan 16. Owaisi, through his lawyers, may seek more time for appearing before the police.
“Akbar Owaisi is a public representative and not a hardcore criminal as the government is trying to project him,” a leader of MIM told IANS while taking serious objection to Director General of Police V. Dinesh Reddy’s statement that, if necessary, the police would take Interpol’s help to arrest him.
Sources in MIM said Akbar would make himself available to police soon after his return to India and would cooperate with the due process of law.
While the young leader, who discontinued his medical education to enter politics in early 1990s, was booked many times for alleged provocative speeches in the past, this is the first time that a case of waging war or attempting to wage war has been registered against him.
Representing Chandrayangutta constituency in Hyderabad for the third consecutive term, Owaisi is also the leader of the MIM in the legislative assembly.
His alleged objectionable comments triggered an outcry from political opponents, who are demanding his disqualification as member of the legislative assembly; his opponents also seek that he be barred from contesting elections.
The MIM, which severed its ties with the Congress recently over the issue of expansion of a temple abutting historic Charminar, sees a conspiracy behind the cases.
A party leader, who did not want to be named, said Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy was worried over the huge public response MIM was drawing at its public meetings in various towns.
“The chief minister says that the government has nothing to do with the cases, it is all his game plan to stop the MIM leader,” he said, while referring to the police chief’s statement that Owaisi may not be allowed to address public meetings in future.
Leaders MIM and some other Muslim groups under the banner of United Muslim Action Committee have been addressing meetings in towns with sizeable Muslim population to ‘expose the Kiran Kumar Reddy government for colluding with communal forces’.
Unmindful of the controversy over Owaisi’s remarks, the Muslim groups are holding a public meeting at Tandur in Ranga Reddy district Saturday night.
Sources in MIM also blamed some other rivals of the party and a section of electronic media for blowing the issue out of proportion. “There is nothing new in what he said. One should see the context in which the remarks were made,” sources said.
MIM leaders are hopeful that serious charges under Section 121 would not stand in the court of law. They claim that Owaisi has said nothing which can be described as ‘anti-national’.

Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh) : Andhra Pradesh politician Akbaruddin Owaisi, who has been booked in three different cases for making alleged inflammatory speeches, will surrender once he returns from London, his brother, Asaduddin Owaisi, said in a rally tonight.
"My brother will not run away from the law," Asaduddin Owaisi, a Member of Parliament, said at a rally in Old Eidgah at Tandur, 150 km from Hyderabad.
"We are not against Hindus. We are against the BJP and Kiran Kumar Reddy," he said. Mr Reddy is the Chief Minister of the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh. Mr Owaisi's Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) withdrew support from Mr Reddy's government last year.
Akbaruddin Owaisi, who is a MIM legislator, has been booked in two first information reports for allegedly using inflammatory language against a particular community during public speeches last month. Mr Owaisi was directed to appear before the police in Adilabad district on January 7 and in Nizambad town on January 8.
The legislator from Chandrayangutta is reportedly in London for treatment.

Vadodara (Gujarat) : A court on Saturday issued a notice to Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi asking him to appear before it on January 24 after a citizen filed a complaint against the Hyderabad-based MLA for allegedly making a "hate speech" against a community.
"The complaint against Owaisi was filed in the court of judicial magistrate first class by citizen Jayesh Gandhi for delivering provocative speech hurting the sentiments of a community. The court has served a notice on Owaisi asking him to appear before it on January 24," Gandhi's lawyer Anil Desai said.
Gandhi filed his complaint under Sec 298 (uttering words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings) of IPC, he said.
The complaint was filed in reference to the "hate speech" allegedly delivered by the MIM legislator while addressing a public meeting at Nirmal town in Andhra Pradesh's Adilabad district on December 24, 2012.
Andhra Pradesh Police till Friday had registered three FIRs against Owaisi at Adilabad and Nizamabad districts, and another by Osmania University (OU) Police in Hyderabad on similar charges.

It raises questions on the police's intention, whether they are actually investigating the cases against Owaisi or just trying to fool the people. HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Police on Friday registered a third case against Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi for his alleged hate speeches while another court directed police to book the legislator, who is away in London.
A case under Indian Penal Code Section 153 (A) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, language and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) was registered at Osmania University police station on Friday. Police took the action on the directions of a city court.
On Thursday the court, acting on a petition by an individual, directed police to book Akbar, as he is popularly called. Another court in Hyderabad adjourned to January 7 the hearing of petition by an advocate, seeking action against Akbar.
Meanwhile, a court in Ranga Reddy district, adjacent to Hyderabad, Friday directed LB Nagar police station in the district to register a case against Akbar under various sections of the IPC. The court order came on the petition by advocate Janardhan.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged governor ESL Narasimhan to take action against Akbar for allegedly insulting Hindu religion and traditions. A delegation of BJP leaders, headed by the party's state chief G Kishan Reddy, called on the governor and demanded action against Akbar.
The BJP delegation complained that the state government did not take any action and it was some lawyers and concerned citizens who approached the courts.
The BJP and its frontal organizations staged protests in various parts of the state on Friday, demanding immediate arrest of Akbar. They also demanded that he should be disqualified as member of the legislative assembly.
Assembly speaker N Manohar said many people, through phone and e-mails, complained about the alleged provocative remarks of the legislator. If a formal complaint is lodged, the house committee would look into it, Manohar said.
Earlier, police pasted a notice at the residence of the MIM leader, who is away in London for medical treatment.
A day after registering the cases, police in Adilabad and Nizamabad districts served notice on the legislator. As nobody was at his house in Banjara Hills here, police pasted the notices on the wall of the main entrance.
Akbar has been asked to appear before police on January 8 at Nirmal town and on January 9 at Nizamabad for questioning with regard to the speeches he delivered at public meetings at Nirmal and Nizamabad towns last month.
Akbar, who is leader of the MIM in the Andhra Pradesh assembly, faces arrest as the police have booked him under non-bailable sections of the IPC.
The cases have been registered under Section 121 (waging or attempting to wage war against the state), Section 153 (A) and Section 295A (for deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).
Director general of police V Dinesh Reddy on Thursday said they may also seek Interpol's help if the legislator is found to be deliberately delaying his appearance before police. He denied any soft-pedalling on the issue and attributed the delay to seeking legal opinion before proceeding against a legislator.
Akbar, who represents Chandrayangutta assembly constituency, is the younger brother of MIM chief and MP from Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi.

Hyderabad : Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police Dinesh Reddy on Thursday denied any political interference in the alleged hate speech case against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi. Claiming that Owaisi could be arrested for making the alleged hate speech following the registration of an FIR against the MLA under Indian Penal Code Section 153(a) (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) by the Nirmal police station in Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh, the DGP said that police took time to act against him because they were seeking legal opinion since the MIM MLA is a people's representative.
Reddy said that the police needed to understand the language used by Owaisi, who is the younger brother of Lok Sabha MP and MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. After getting the translated version of Owaisi's speech, the police took suo motu cognizance of the speech and registered the case.
When asked why there was a delay in taking action, Reddy said, "Partly because there were language problems at the places he made the speeches. There was a difficulty in getting the transcripts and then this recorded portion. After local police got it, they were sent to Hyderabad for the legal opinion. "
"It is a bit uncharitable to say that. This state government is very particular to let law take its due course, irrespective of who the person is," Reddy replied when asked if the police had been reluctant in taking action due to political interference. "No, since he has gone for treatment. We thought let him go for treatment and continue with the prosecution," he added.
Another case is likely to be registered against Owaisi in Nizamabad district as well following a Hyderabad court's order. The court had on Thursday ordered the police to register FIR against Akbaruddin Owaisi for an alleged hate speech made by him even as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy assured that "anyone who hurts sentiments will be dealt with as per law."
"If anyone has hurt sentiments you can be rest assured they will be firmly dealt with. Congress is a secular government and anyone who hurts sentiments will be dealt with as per law," Reddy said. "Law will take its own course. We have not directed the police in any way. Anyone who has broken law will be dealt with. The government will not take action, the police will," Reddy added.
The court order came on a petition filed by a city-based businessman S Venkatesh Goud. The court of the 4th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate directed the Osmania University Police to investigate the complaint under section 156 (3) of CrPc and file a report before it on January 28. The Hyderabad court on Thursday posted the hate speech case for January 7 and would record the statement of petitioner on the same date.
"I am really shocked and surprised about the criminal silence of the state government. Why is the Chief Minister, why is the DGP silent? Is the Andhra Pradesh government worried about the political fallout? The BJP will not take it lying down, we will take it up as a serious issue," BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu said in Hyderabad.

Strongly reacting to the alleged communal statement of MIM MLA from Andhra Pradesh Akbaruddin Owaisi, BJP on Thursday demanded his immediate arrest and expressed its anger at the Centre's "deafening silence" on the issue. Former Finance Minister and BJP MP Yashwant Sinha today issued a statement seeking action against Owaisi for a speech which he described as "pure poison" and "objectionable in the extreme".
"Owaisi should be arrested immediately and brought to justice. His membership of the Assembly should be ended forth with and he should be peremptorily disqualified from contesting all future elections," Sinha said. The BJP leader said that such tendencies must be nipped in the bud by meting out exemplary punishment to Owaisi, so that it serves as a deterrent to all such wrong doers. Owaisi, brother of MIM MP Asadudin, is an MLA from Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh. He had allegedly used inflammatory and derogatory words against a particular community in a public speech at Adilabad last week. Sinha also wondered why the Centre and the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh have not spoken on the issue.
"The deafening silence of the Government of India and the shameless behaviour of the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh indicate the warped mindset of the Congress party towards minority communalism," he said.
The BJP leader maintained that Owaisi's comments violate the law, the spirit of the Constitution and the values the country stands for.
"What Owaisi said is pure poison which is bound to inflame communal passions. It is unthinkable that an elected representative of the people should not only harbour such thoughts but should have the temerity to express them in public," Sinha said.

Hyderabad: Almost 10 days after All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi's brother Akbaruddin Owaisi made an alleged hate speech against a community, state Congress has finally promised to take action against him, who, not for the first time, has been proved controversial.
"Our government has taken cognizance of speech and we are collecting evidence to build a strong FIR and a water-tight case where we can book the person causing hatred," said Abid R Khan, General Secretary of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee.
Owaisi had made the incendiary speech, using inflammatory and derogatory words, in Adilabad on December 24, 2012. A Hyderabad court has also admitted a criminal complaint against Owaisi.
"Yes there has been a criminal complaint filed. We will abide by whatever the court decides. (I) do not want to comment any further as it is now sub judice," Akbaruddin's brother Asaduddin Owaisi said.
In Owaisi's case, unlike in the case of Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi who was jailed and indicted by the Election Commission for a hate speech made by him in 2009, the response from the media and political community has been slow, despite the issue being a buzzing topic on social media platforms like Twitter.
Actor and director Farhan Akhtar had tweeted, "how can 2 girls be arrested in less than 24 hrs for a harmless FB post but Owaisi roams free after his blatantly communal rant? #JustAsking." It is almost 10 days later that the criminal court has admitted a complaint and Congress has demanded strict action against Owaisi for promoting enmity between communities.

Bhagyanagar (Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh) : After hearing arguments over maintainability of a memo filed by Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi's counsel on his alleged hate speech, the chief metropolitan magistrate on Wednesday said the order will be pronounced on Thursday whether or not the court will take cognizance of the petition against Akbaruddin. Akbaruddin is the younger brother of MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi.
An advocate, Kashimshetty Karunasagar, had filed a petition against the MIM MLA for his alleged hate speech against the Hindu community in Nirmal in Adilabad district. In his complaint, Karunasagar said he happened to stumble upon Akbaruddin's hate speech - uploaded on youtube - made at a public meeting at Adilabad on December 24, about 300 km from Hyderabad.
Among other contentious things that Akbaruddin said was Hindus have so many gods and goddesses, and every eight days, there are new gods coming up. "We knew about Lakshmi, but who is Bhagyalakshmi, we are not aware," referring to the Bhagyalakshmi temple abutting the historic Charminar.
MIM has complained against a semi-permanent structure over the Bhagyalakshmi temple and parted ways with the Congress party after weeks of violence in the surrounding areas. Akbaruddin's hate speech saw a huge buzz created on the social media and it was also trending on Twitter.
"Inflammatory speech by MLA Akbaruddin - Remove police for 15 mins, we will finish off 100 crore Hindus," tweeted television anchor Karan Thapar, which was re-tweeted by political commentator Swapan Dasgupta.
Akbaruddin, a fair short-haired man in his 30s, has always been known for his fiery anti-Hindu speeches and penchant for controversies. Social media went overboard, with dozens of comments on twitter and several uploads of the video of on facebook etc.
Karunasagar alleged that Akbaruddin through his inflammatory speech, hurt sentiments of millions of people and sought strong action. "My request to the court is to take cognizance of the case under 295-A, 298, 153-A of IPC and conduct the trial against Akbaruddin Owaisi," the petitioner said.
MIM brass were quiet on Akbaruddin's remarks and some analysts said the party, which was supporting the Congress with seven MLAs before breaking off, is trying to make inroads outside the Old City. Its primary target, commentators said, is to woo about eight lakh Muslims in southern AP comprising about 10% of total voters. In recent months, both MIM and Hindu leaders have been in a war of words to gain political mileage and control over the Charminar area.

BJP Andhra Pradesh unit on Monday demanded state government to initiate criminal action against MIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi for allegedly making provocative speeches and hurting sentiments of a particular community.
Owaisi, who represents Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency in the city through his party Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), allegedly used inflammatory and derogatory words against a community while addressing public meetings in Adilabad and Nizamabad districts recently, state party unit president G Kishan Reddy told reporters here.
Strongly condemning the speeches of Owaisi which "intended to hurt religious sentiments," Reddy asked why the state government did not take note of it when Owaisi openly used "objectionable, abusive language and inflammatory words against a particular community."
Demanding immediate action against Owaisi, Reddy said, "The party feels that such speeches tantamount to threatening the very democratic fabric of the nation and divide people."
The party would write a letter to Election Commission seeking de-recognition of MIM for allegedly making an attempt to promote animosity among people of different religions and trying to divide people, the state BJP chief said.

Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh) : Akbaruddin Owaisi, the firebrand leader of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), was on Friday taken to court over his disparaging remarks against Hindus in a hate speech, the main content of which was that Muslims would need just 15 minutes without the police to show 100 crore Hindus who is more powerful.
In a complaint filed against the MIM legislator, an advocate said he had stumbled upon YouTube uploaded hate speech made at a public meeting at Adilabad on December 24, about 300 km from the city.
The VII additional chief metropolitan magistrate after admitting the petition said the matter will be heard on December 31.
Akbaruddin, who is the younger brother of MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, said Hindus have so many gods and goddesses, and every eight days, there are new gods coming up. "We knew about Lakshmi, but who is Bhagyalakshmi, we are not aware," Akbar said referring to the Bhagyalakshmi temple abutting the historic Charminar.
The MIM had been complaining against a semi-permanent structure over the Bhagyalakshmi temple and finally parted ways with the Congress party after weeks of violence.Akbaruddin's hate speech saw a huge buzz created on the social media all day and it was also trending on Twitter.
"Inflammatory speech by MLA Akbaruddin - Remove police for 15 mins, We will finish off 100 crore Hindus," tweeted television commentator and interviewer Karan Thapar, which was re-tweeted by journalist and columnist Swapan Dasgupta.

MIM MLA Owaisi to appear before Andhra police tomorrow
January 6, 2013Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, booked for allegedly delivering a hate speech against a particular community, is likely to appear before police tomorrow, even as fresh complaints against him poured in for the same.
"He (Owaisi) will appear before the police tomorrow," a senior police officer said, adding that his statements will be recorded in connection with cases registered against him.
When asked if the police anticipated any trouble due to his appearance, the police officer said, "Everything will be taken care of".
Yesterday, Andhra Pradesh DGP V Dinesh Reddy said Owaisi informed police that he was undergoing treatment in London and would appear before it shortly.
As part of a further probe into the two cases, notices were issued against Owaisi on January 4 and he was directed to appear before police in Adilabad district on January 7, as well as the Nizambad II Town police on January 8.
Another notice was served to the MIM legislator by Osmania police asking him to appear before it on January 10.
While two FIRs were registered suo motu at Adilabad and Nizamabad districts, a third case was registered by Osmania University police, following a court directive after Owaisi allegedly used inflammatory language against a particular community last month.
Fresh complaints continued to pour in against Owaisi from Malkangiri and Vanasthalipuram, though no cases have been registered, police said.

Akbar Owaisi has a history of hate speeches
January 5, 2013Hyderabad : When MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi boarded a flight for London on Christmas with his family he may have been unaware that what he had said a few hours earlier at Nirmal in Adilabad district would cause national outrage and lead to several new cases against him, including that of waging war against India and promoting enmity between communities.
For what Akbaruddin said was nothing new. He has been making such 'hate' speeches for several years and it's just that this time it became scandalous, thanks to the rising power of the Internet and social networks like YouTube and Facebook. "If you think he would be apologetic, you are terribly mistaken," said a source who claimed to know him for two decades.
Rebel with a cause is how many describe Akbaruddin. Born into the politically-powerful family of Salahuddin Owaisi in 1970, he studied till Class X in Hyderabad Public School, then the only elite and up-market school in the city. After completing Intermediate in St Mary's Junior College in Himayatnagar, the Owaisi scion went to Gulbarga to pursue medicine but during his second year of MBBS in 1992-93 answered the call from his family and abandoned studies to begin a career in politics.
The rebel in Akbaruddin soon surfaced. In what is considered virtually impossible even in today's Hyderabadi Muslim society, Akbaruddin fell in love with a Christian girl and insisted on marrying her. Despite opposition from his father Salahuddin, he went ahead and married the girl in 1995 and she began a new life under the name Sabina Farzana. But he was not forgiven by Salahuddin and had to spend the next two years in wilderness.
In 1998, the failing health of Salahuddin forced a rapprochement between the father and the son and Akbaruddin returned to the family fold to take on rival Amanullah Khan from Chandrayangutta assembly constituency and began his electoral career with a bang by defeating him in the 1999 polls. From then on there was no looking back for Akbaruddin. The Akbar as we know him soon blossomed. "I will convert Lal Darwaza into Hara Darwaza," he thundered on one occasion. Lal Darwaza was a Hindu stronghold in the Old City and spawned many leaders like BJP's A Narendra. In 2007, he threatened to carry out the fatwa issued against author Salman Rushdie and behead writer Taslima Nasreen if she set foot in Hyderabad. "See what happened to Taslima and P V Narasimha Rao. They were forced into oblivion for hurting the sentiments of the Muslims," the MIM MLA said at the Nirmal meeting on December 24 as the crowd chanted 'Sher-e-Deccan'.
In April 2011, Akbaruddin survived an attempt on his life by a group led by rival Mohammed Pehalwan. "If my enemies want to eliminate me, they should try using cannon," he said at the Nirmal meeting. It now remains to be seen how the rabble-rousing self-declared champion of Muslims would react to the public outcry and handle the slew of cases that await him when he returns to the city.

MIM smells conspiracy behind action against Owaisi
January 5, 2013Hyderabad: The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) sees a conspiracy by the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh to target its leader Akbaruddin Owaisi by slapping serious charges of waging war against the nation.
Police in Hyderabad, Adilabad and Nizamabad districts, during the last two days, registered three cases against Owaisi for allegedly making hate speeches last month.
The courts in Hyderabad and neighboring Ranga Reddy district directed the police to book Owaisi under Section 153 (A) of the Indian Penal Code for promoting enmity between different groups.
However, the police in Nirmal town of Adilabad district went a step further and registered a case under Section 121 (waging or attempting to wage war against the state).
Police in Nizamabad also booked the MIM legislator under Section 295 A (for deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings).
The police Friday served notice to Owaisi, who is away in London for treatment, summoning him for questioning at Nirmal police station on Jan 8 and at Nizamabad on January 9.
The 42-year-old firebrand, younger brother of MIM chief and Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi, faces arrest in the case.
However, sources in MIM said he is not likely to return to India before Jan 16. Owaisi, through his lawyers, may seek more time for appearing before the police.
“Akbar Owaisi is a public representative and not a hardcore criminal as the government is trying to project him,” a leader of MIM told IANS while taking serious objection to Director General of Police V. Dinesh Reddy’s statement that, if necessary, the police would take Interpol’s help to arrest him.
Sources in MIM said Akbar would make himself available to police soon after his return to India and would cooperate with the due process of law.
While the young leader, who discontinued his medical education to enter politics in early 1990s, was booked many times for alleged provocative speeches in the past, this is the first time that a case of waging war or attempting to wage war has been registered against him.
Representing Chandrayangutta constituency in Hyderabad for the third consecutive term, Owaisi is also the leader of the MIM in the legislative assembly.
His alleged objectionable comments triggered an outcry from political opponents, who are demanding his disqualification as member of the legislative assembly; his opponents also seek that he be barred from contesting elections.
The MIM, which severed its ties with the Congress recently over the issue of expansion of a temple abutting historic Charminar, sees a conspiracy behind the cases.
A party leader, who did not want to be named, said Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy was worried over the huge public response MIM was drawing at its public meetings in various towns.
“The chief minister says that the government has nothing to do with the cases, it is all his game plan to stop the MIM leader,” he said, while referring to the police chief’s statement that Owaisi may not be allowed to address public meetings in future.
Leaders MIM and some other Muslim groups under the banner of United Muslim Action Committee have been addressing meetings in towns with sizeable Muslim population to ‘expose the Kiran Kumar Reddy government for colluding with communal forces’.
Unmindful of the controversy over Owaisi’s remarks, the Muslim groups are holding a public meeting at Tandur in Ranga Reddy district Saturday night.
Sources in MIM also blamed some other rivals of the party and a section of electronic media for blowing the issue out of proportion. “There is nothing new in what he said. One should see the context in which the remarks were made,” sources said.
MIM leaders are hopeful that serious charges under Section 121 would not stand in the court of law. They claim that Owaisi has said nothing which can be described as ‘anti-national’.

Akbaruddin Owaisi to surrender over 'hate speech' issue, announces his brother at rally
January 5, 2013Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh) : Andhra Pradesh politician Akbaruddin Owaisi, who has been booked in three different cases for making alleged inflammatory speeches, will surrender once he returns from London, his brother, Asaduddin Owaisi, said in a rally tonight.
"My brother will not run away from the law," Asaduddin Owaisi, a Member of Parliament, said at a rally in Old Eidgah at Tandur, 150 km from Hyderabad.
"We are not against Hindus. We are against the BJP and Kiran Kumar Reddy," he said. Mr Reddy is the Chief Minister of the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh. Mr Owaisi's Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) withdrew support from Mr Reddy's government last year.
Akbaruddin Owaisi, who is a MIM legislator, has been booked in two first information reports for allegedly using inflammatory language against a particular community during public speeches last month. Mr Owaisi was directed to appear before the police in Adilabad district on January 7 and in Nizambad town on January 8.
The legislator from Chandrayangutta is reportedly in London for treatment.

Owaisi served notice by Vadodara court for 'hate speech'
January 5, 2013Vadodara (Gujarat) : A court on Saturday issued a notice to Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi asking him to appear before it on January 24 after a citizen filed a complaint against the Hyderabad-based MLA for allegedly making a "hate speech" against a community.
"The complaint against Owaisi was filed in the court of judicial magistrate first class by citizen Jayesh Gandhi for delivering provocative speech hurting the sentiments of a community. The court has served a notice on Owaisi asking him to appear before it on January 24," Gandhi's lawyer Anil Desai said.
Gandhi filed his complaint under Sec 298 (uttering words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings) of IPC, he said.
The complaint was filed in reference to the "hate speech" allegedly delivered by the MIM legislator while addressing a public meeting at Nirmal town in Andhra Pradesh's Adilabad district on December 24, 2012.
Andhra Pradesh Police till Friday had registered three FIRs against Owaisi at Adilabad and Nizamabad districts, and another by Osmania University (OU) Police in Hyderabad on similar charges.

January 4, 2013HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Police on Friday registered a third case against Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi for his alleged hate speeches while another court directed police to book the legislator, who is away in London.
A case under Indian Penal Code Section 153 (A) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, language and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) was registered at Osmania University police station on Friday. Police took the action on the directions of a city court.
On Thursday the court, acting on a petition by an individual, directed police to book Akbar, as he is popularly called. Another court in Hyderabad adjourned to January 7 the hearing of petition by an advocate, seeking action against Akbar.
Meanwhile, a court in Ranga Reddy district, adjacent to Hyderabad, Friday directed LB Nagar police station in the district to register a case against Akbar under various sections of the IPC. The court order came on the petition by advocate Janardhan.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged governor ESL Narasimhan to take action against Akbar for allegedly insulting Hindu religion and traditions. A delegation of BJP leaders, headed by the party's state chief G Kishan Reddy, called on the governor and demanded action against Akbar.
The BJP delegation complained that the state government did not take any action and it was some lawyers and concerned citizens who approached the courts.
The BJP and its frontal organizations staged protests in various parts of the state on Friday, demanding immediate arrest of Akbar. They also demanded that he should be disqualified as member of the legislative assembly.
Assembly speaker N Manohar said many people, through phone and e-mails, complained about the alleged provocative remarks of the legislator. If a formal complaint is lodged, the house committee would look into it, Manohar said.
Earlier, police pasted a notice at the residence of the MIM leader, who is away in London for medical treatment.
A day after registering the cases, police in Adilabad and Nizamabad districts served notice on the legislator. As nobody was at his house in Banjara Hills here, police pasted the notices on the wall of the main entrance.
Akbar has been asked to appear before police on January 8 at Nirmal town and on January 9 at Nizamabad for questioning with regard to the speeches he delivered at public meetings at Nirmal and Nizamabad towns last month.
Akbar, who is leader of the MIM in the Andhra Pradesh assembly, faces arrest as the police have booked him under non-bailable sections of the IPC.
The cases have been registered under Section 121 (waging or attempting to wage war against the state), Section 153 (A) and Section 295A (for deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).
Director general of police V Dinesh Reddy on Thursday said they may also seek Interpol's help if the legislator is found to be deliberately delaying his appearance before police. He denied any soft-pedalling on the issue and attributed the delay to seeking legal opinion before proceeding against a legislator.
Akbar, who represents Chandrayangutta assembly constituency, is the younger brother of MIM chief and MP from Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi.

January 3, 2013Hyderabad : Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police Dinesh Reddy on Thursday denied any political interference in the alleged hate speech case against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi. Claiming that Owaisi could be arrested for making the alleged hate speech following the registration of an FIR against the MLA under Indian Penal Code Section 153(a) (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) by the Nirmal police station in Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh, the DGP said that police took time to act against him because they were seeking legal opinion since the MIM MLA is a people's representative.
Reddy said that the police needed to understand the language used by Owaisi, who is the younger brother of Lok Sabha MP and MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. After getting the translated version of Owaisi's speech, the police took suo motu cognizance of the speech and registered the case.
When asked why there was a delay in taking action, Reddy said, "Partly because there were language problems at the places he made the speeches. There was a difficulty in getting the transcripts and then this recorded portion. After local police got it, they were sent to Hyderabad for the legal opinion. "
"It is a bit uncharitable to say that. This state government is very particular to let law take its due course, irrespective of who the person is," Reddy replied when asked if the police had been reluctant in taking action due to political interference. "No, since he has gone for treatment. We thought let him go for treatment and continue with the prosecution," he added.
Another case is likely to be registered against Owaisi in Nizamabad district as well following a Hyderabad court's order. The court had on Thursday ordered the police to register FIR against Akbaruddin Owaisi for an alleged hate speech made by him even as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy assured that "anyone who hurts sentiments will be dealt with as per law."
"If anyone has hurt sentiments you can be rest assured they will be firmly dealt with. Congress is a secular government and anyone who hurts sentiments will be dealt with as per law," Reddy said. "Law will take its own course. We have not directed the police in any way. Anyone who has broken law will be dealt with. The government will not take action, the police will," Reddy added.
The court order came on a petition filed by a city-based businessman S Venkatesh Goud. The court of the 4th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate directed the Osmania University Police to investigate the complaint under section 156 (3) of CrPc and file a report before it on January 28. The Hyderabad court on Thursday posted the hate speech case for January 7 and would record the statement of petitioner on the same date.
"I am really shocked and surprised about the criminal silence of the state government. Why is the Chief Minister, why is the DGP silent? Is the Andhra Pradesh government worried about the political fallout? The BJP will not take it lying down, we will take it up as a serious issue," BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu said in Hyderabad.

Owaisi remark : BJP expresses anger at Centre's 'deafening silence'
January 3, 2013Strongly reacting to the alleged communal statement of MIM MLA from Andhra Pradesh Akbaruddin Owaisi, BJP on Thursday demanded his immediate arrest and expressed its anger at the Centre's "deafening silence" on the issue. Former Finance Minister and BJP MP Yashwant Sinha today issued a statement seeking action against Owaisi for a speech which he described as "pure poison" and "objectionable in the extreme".
"Owaisi should be arrested immediately and brought to justice. His membership of the Assembly should be ended forth with and he should be peremptorily disqualified from contesting all future elections," Sinha said. The BJP leader said that such tendencies must be nipped in the bud by meting out exemplary punishment to Owaisi, so that it serves as a deterrent to all such wrong doers. Owaisi, brother of MIM MP Asadudin, is an MLA from Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh. He had allegedly used inflammatory and derogatory words against a particular community in a public speech at Adilabad last week. Sinha also wondered why the Centre and the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh have not spoken on the issue.
"The deafening silence of the Government of India and the shameless behaviour of the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh indicate the warped mindset of the Congress party towards minority communalism," he said.
The BJP leader maintained that Owaisi's comments violate the law, the spirit of the Constitution and the values the country stands for.
"What Owaisi said is pure poison which is bound to inflame communal passions. It is unthinkable that an elected representative of the people should not only harbour such thoughts but should have the temerity to express them in public," Sinha said.

10 days later, Cong seeks action against MIM MLA Owaisi for hate speech
January 3, 2012Hyderabad: Almost 10 days after All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi's brother Akbaruddin Owaisi made an alleged hate speech against a community, state Congress has finally promised to take action against him, who, not for the first time, has been proved controversial.
"Our government has taken cognizance of speech and we are collecting evidence to build a strong FIR and a water-tight case where we can book the person causing hatred," said Abid R Khan, General Secretary of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee.
Owaisi had made the incendiary speech, using inflammatory and derogatory words, in Adilabad on December 24, 2012. A Hyderabad court has also admitted a criminal complaint against Owaisi.
"Yes there has been a criminal complaint filed. We will abide by whatever the court decides. (I) do not want to comment any further as it is now sub judice," Akbaruddin's brother Asaduddin Owaisi said.
In Owaisi's case, unlike in the case of Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi who was jailed and indicted by the Election Commission for a hate speech made by him in 2009, the response from the media and political community has been slow, despite the issue being a buzzing topic on social media platforms like Twitter.
Actor and director Farhan Akhtar had tweeted, "how can 2 girls be arrested in less than 24 hrs for a harmless FB post but Owaisi roams free after his blatantly communal rant? #JustAsking." It is almost 10 days later that the criminal court has admitted a complaint and Congress has demanded strict action against Owaisi for promoting enmity between communities.

Decision on MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi hate-speech today
January 3, 2013Bhagyanagar (Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh) : After hearing arguments over maintainability of a memo filed by Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi's counsel on his alleged hate speech, the chief metropolitan magistrate on Wednesday said the order will be pronounced on Thursday whether or not the court will take cognizance of the petition against Akbaruddin. Akbaruddin is the younger brother of MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi.
An advocate, Kashimshetty Karunasagar, had filed a petition against the MIM MLA for his alleged hate speech against the Hindu community in Nirmal in Adilabad district. In his complaint, Karunasagar said he happened to stumble upon Akbaruddin's hate speech - uploaded on youtube - made at a public meeting at Adilabad on December 24, about 300 km from Hyderabad.

Karunasagar alleged that Akbaruddin through his inflammatory speech, hurt sentiments of millions of people and sought strong action. "My request to the court is to take cognizance of the case under 295-A, 298, 153-A of IPC and conduct the trial against Akbaruddin Owaisi," the petitioner said.

Hyderabad court to hear plea against MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi for hate speech
January 2, 2013Bhagyanagar (Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh) : A Hyderabad court is hearing a petition filed against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief Asauddin Owaisi's brother Akbaruddin Owaisi for an alleged hate speech he made on December 24 in Adilabad, Andhra Pradesh. There have been calls for action against Akbaruddin Owaisi after the complainant discovered the speech on a video sharing site and moved the court.
Akbaruddin Owaisi is a MLA in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, representing the Chandrayangutta constituency in Hyderabad. He allegedly used inflammatory and derogatory words against a community while addressing public meetings in Adilabad and Nizamabad districts.
The court has admitted the petition and will decide on Thursday at 4pm whether to direct the police to file an FIR or whether the court will hear the case directly.
The Andhra Pradesh unit of the BJP has demanded state government to initiate criminal action against Akbaruddin Owaisi. The BJP is also planning to write a letter to Election Commission seeking de-recognition of MIM for allegedly making an attempt to promote animosity among people of different religions and trying to divide people, state BJP chief G Kishan Reddy said.
He said CDs containing Owaisi's "objectionable" speeches would be sent to the state Governor, Chief Minister and Assembly speaker seeking action against him.

December 31, 2012BJP Andhra Pradesh unit on Monday demanded state government to initiate criminal action against MIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi for allegedly making provocative speeches and hurting sentiments of a particular community.
Owaisi, who represents Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency in the city through his party Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), allegedly used inflammatory and derogatory words against a community while addressing public meetings in Adilabad and Nizamabad districts recently, state party unit president G Kishan Reddy told reporters here.
Strongly condemning the speeches of Owaisi which "intended to hurt religious sentiments," Reddy asked why the state government did not take note of it when Owaisi openly used "objectionable, abusive language and inflammatory words against a particular community."
Demanding immediate action against Owaisi, Reddy said, "The party feels that such speeches tantamount to threatening the very democratic fabric of the nation and divide people."
The party would write a letter to Election Commission seeking de-recognition of MIM for allegedly making an attempt to promote animosity among people of different religions and trying to divide people, the state BJP chief said.

MIM leader Akbaruddin Owasi in trouble for hate speech against Hindus
December 30, 2012Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh) : Akbaruddin Owaisi, the firebrand leader of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), was on Friday taken to court over his disparaging remarks against Hindus in a hate speech, the main content of which was that Muslims would need just 15 minutes without the police to show 100 crore Hindus who is more powerful.
In a complaint filed against the MIM legislator, an advocate said he had stumbled upon YouTube uploaded hate speech made at a public meeting at Adilabad on December 24, about 300 km from the city.
The VII additional chief metropolitan magistrate after admitting the petition said the matter will be heard on December 31.
Akbaruddin, who is the younger brother of MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, said Hindus have so many gods and goddesses, and every eight days, there are new gods coming up. "We knew about Lakshmi, but who is Bhagyalakshmi, we are not aware," Akbar said referring to the Bhagyalakshmi temple abutting the historic Charminar.
The MIM had been complaining against a semi-permanent structure over the Bhagyalakshmi temple and finally parted ways with the Congress party after weeks of violence.Akbaruddin's hate speech saw a huge buzz created on the social media all day and it was also trending on Twitter.
"Inflammatory speech by MLA Akbaruddin - Remove police for 15 mins, We will finish off 100 crore Hindus," tweeted television commentator and interviewer Karan Thapar, which was re-tweeted by journalist and columnist Swapan Dasgupta.
