Uttarakhand: Cong could learn from ‘Rambo’ Modi’s rescue model

Uttarakhand: Cong could learn from ‘Rambo’ Modi’s rescue model by Sanjay Singh | Read & Share... The Congress’s response to Narendra Modi’s supposed Rambo act has been two fold – its senior leaders taking to Twitter, issuing statements running him down with whatever vocabulary they could summon; and second, let party vice president Rahul Gandhi, who faced severe criticism from the opposition for  his disappearing act at the time of a national calamity, make a grand appearance with mother, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, at the party headquarters in New Delhi to flag off 25 trucks carrying relief material to Uttrakhand. The whole exercise looked more like a Presidential salute at the Republic Day parade rather than a sincere helping hand to the victims of the natural disaster. Modi may have had an eye on the subsequent political mobilization through his ground zero rescue act. After all, he too is a politician and is undeclared prime ministerial candidate of the main opposi

He’s good on economics, and that’s one of the things India desperately needs in a leader.

He’s good on economics, and that’s one of the things India desperately needs in a leader. Jim O’Neill, former chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, on Narendra Modi.   A 10-Step Program for India’s Economy | Read & Share your views as comment.. It’s all about productivity. India scores poorly on indexes of economic variables that are critical for economic efficiency -- worse than Brazil, Ch ina and even Russia. To change that, it needs to do 10 things: 1. Improve its governance. This is probably the hardest and most important task -- the precondition for the rest. Modi is right: Whoever leads the next government in 2014, India needs maximum governance and minimum government. There is no point having the world’s largest democracy unless it leads to effective government. 2. Fix primary and secondary education. There has been some progress here, but a huge number of young people still get little or no schooling. I sit on the board of Teach for All, a global umbrella orga

Narendra Modi spoke on 'Good Governance through Democracy' at launch of 'Beyond a Billion Ballots' in Mumbai!

Narendra Modi spoke on 'Good Governance through Democracy' at launch of 'Beyond a Billion Ballots' in Mumbai!   We need to institutionalize ideas & practices so that even if individuals don't remain in the system, the frameworks do! We do n ot need political interference which harms good governance but we need political intervention which encourages people's participation! I said that for good governance, we should move towards a culture of responsibility & ownership of society with trust & trusteeship as its pillars. “As Mahatma Gandhi said, think if your decision will make that poor person happy and if it does, you are taking the right decision,” he said. Shri Modi described trust as the precondition of good governance and he stressed on building institutions rather than concentrating on individuals. He said, “Institutions cannot be people centric. We have made things centered around people…if one family goes away this will happen…but is this o

How to Deal with Jealousy...

How to Deal with Jealousy... 3 ways to kill this evil! Sant Kabir says that foolish people cannot discriminate between good and evil. Such men cannot be happy because the load of evil gets too heavy for them. Jealousy is one of those unnecessary evils we burden ourselves with. None of us could honestly say that we have not ever been jealous of more fortunate ones. Ironically, however, jealousy is generally found among equals or near equals like friends of equal social stat us, colleagues in the office and relatives. We are not jealous of someone who is either too highly placed or too distantly connected with us. How many of us care who becomes the president of USA or prime minister of India? Jealousy keeps us under a sense of discouraging frustration and disappointment. It makes us gloomy. It is such a depressing feeling that we cannot tell about it to even our best friends nor can we contain it within ourselves. Consequently, it leaves us with an inconvenience of a peculiar misery

Bizarre 500-Million-Year-Old Creature Unearthed!

Bizarre 500-Million-Year-Old Creature Unearthed! Very interesting read... :) Bizarre 500-Million-Year-Old Creature Unearthed: A new fossilized, cigar-shaped creature that lived about 520 million years ago has been unearthed in Morocco. The newfound species, Helicocystis moroccoensis, has "characteristics that place it as the most primitive echinoderm that has fivefold symmetry," said study co-author Andrew Smith, a paleontologist at the Natural History Museum in London, referring to the group of animals that includes starfish and sea urchins. Moder n echinoderms typically have five-point symmetry, such as the five arms of the starfish or the sand dollar's distinctive pattern. The primitive sea creature, described today (June 25) in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, could even change its body shape from slender to stumpy. The creature lived on the ancient supercontinent called Gondwana during the Cambrian Explosion, a period when all creatures i
