Importance and Significance of Coconut!

Importance and Significance of Coconut! Known as “Tengai” (literally “honey fruit”) in Tamil, and as “Nariyal” in Hindi (literally “fruit containing water”, from the root word “nari” meaning “water”).  The coconut is a resilient fruit whose shell can withstand the pressure of sea water, so it is not impossible for it to have made the transit across the water without human assistance. A hardy pla nt, the coconut would have been able to survive in relatively inhospitable weather without much upkeep. It grows in sandy soil, requires little water, and requires virtually no maintenance. In Indian culture ‘Nariyal’ or ‘Copra’ is a symbol of good luck and prosperity. Every auspicious work begins with the breaking of the coconut and the offering of ‘Nariyal’ is a traditional ritual. For success and prosperity at all occasions, the launch is done with the breaking of a sanctified coconut. O Hindus ! Since the present un-righteous rulers will not be taking any action against these idol-breaker heirs of Afzalkhan, establish Hindu Rashtra ! Today Is World Day Against Child Labour!

Today Is World Day Against Child Labour! They say that childhood is the best time of our lives. A time of love and laughter, of being pampered, of learning and discovering where our own particular strengths lie. Children have the right to a joyful childhood. Every child has the right to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment with protection and guidance from their guardians. Whether in the  cities or in villages, at home or in schools, a child is always a child and deserves a childhood free from exploitation and abuse. Yet millions of children are being robbed of their childhoods every day. Unfortunately, for a whole lot of Indian children, the harsh reality of childhood is quite different. These children help support their families, doing agricultural labour or working in homes or hazardous industries. Fifty lakh / 5 million children eke out a livelihood in the country, of whom 17.5 lakh are in Uttarakhand, according to the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO). They are

Worst Journalists

The previous edition of  India’s Worst Journalist in 2012  on this site still remains one of the most popular posts and also a very widely reproduced one. Over the last decade or so our journalists have come to be held in the same contempt that is usually reserved for politicians. Many of them have simply forgotten the art and science of the profession and this is a serious tragedy for aspiring journalists. How they came to such a pass is a long story. The most prominent ones are not even journalists anymore; they are ‘ Editorialists ’ whose main job is to swing public opinion one way or another. Add to this the epidemic of ‘ paidnews ’ and some of our news channels and newspapers would be nothing more than Bollywood or Commercials. After all, didn’t the late  Christopher Hitchens  say: “ I became a journalist because one didn’t have to specialise ”. Some prominent faces from the 2010 roll of honour have dropped out.  Vinod Mehta  has retired from active journalism and remains Cha
