Throwing waste in Ganga river is likely to be made a punishable offence and can land you behind bars. According to a proposed law which needs the approval of Union Water Resource Ministry, spitting, throwing garbage, polythene or waster in the holy river will be a punishable offence, as per news reports.  The central government is also planning to build 25,000 km inland waterways. Cleaning of the holy river was one of the main agenda of Modi’s campaign during Lok Sabha elections.  Those found guilty can reportedly be imprisoned for up to three years or fined for up to Rs 10,000. Soon after Modi’s swearing in ceremony, a separate ministry was created to focus on cleanliness of the holy river.  The ministry is being headed by Uma Bharti who is an MP from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh . Israel today said it was all ready to be part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project of restoring to river Ganga its past glory. ‘We will be more than happy to cooperate with any Indian entity, government or private, in the task of cleaning the Ganga ,’ Israeli Ambassador to India Alon Ushpiz said in an interaction with UNI journalists here. Mr Modi, who formally took over charge of his office on Tuesday, has created a special Ministry of Ganga rejuvenation headed by Ms Uma Bharati. For Prime Minister  Narendra Modi  rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) was not just an empty poll promise made in the heat of elections. Less than a week into office, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), under the guidance of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), has initiated an ambitious project to rehabilitate people who have become “refugees” in their own country. The project, which is still on the drawing board, will look at the rehabilitation of not just the Kashmiri Pandits but also refugees from Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) who came to India post-partition.
