Split with Nitish will only boost BJP in Bihar due to the Modi Factor : LensOnNews Poll

Split with Nitish will only boost BJP in Bihar due to the Modi Factor : LensOnNews Poll Scenario 1: NDA is intact, no change in alliances Scenario 2: NDA splits, other alliances remain unchanged Scenario 3: BJP fights separately, JDU and Congress fight together The Modi factor There is a clear trend line from 2009 onwards showing increasing popular support for the BJP in Bihar at the expense of other parties including its own ally the JDU. Thus the BJP’s vote share increased from 14 per cent in the Lok Sabha poll of 2009 to 16.5 per cent in the assembly elections of 2010, while the JDU’s vote share declined from 24 per cent to 22 per cent; the vote share of RJD/LJP declined marginally from 26 to 25.5 per cent; and that of Congress went down from 10.3 to 8.4 per cent. The findings of the LenOnNews poll are consistent with this trend, showing the BJP increasing its vote share further to 31 per cent if it fights the coming Lok Sabha elections on its own – due to ‘the Modi factor’. India, China end stand off; withdraw troops from Ladakh

India, China end stand off; withdraw troops from Ladakh LEH/NEW DELHI: In a sudden development, India and China pulled back their troops from the stand off point at Daulat Beg Oldi sector in Ladakh, where the Chinese forces had intruded nearly three weeks back, official sources said tonight.  A battalion of Chinese troops estimate at about 50 and accompanied by vehicles and dogs had intruded 19 km inside the Indian territory across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Daulat Beg Oldi sector on April 15 and set up five tents.  The Indian troops had also established tented posts facing the Chinese forces at a distance of 300 metres. The troops of the two sides held four flag meetings, the last one being yesterday. However, there was no positive outcome from these meetings, which went hand-in-hand with high level diplomatic efforts to break the impasse. An agreement was reached late today for both sides to pull back their troops simultaneously from the face off point, which was co

Slow death of Congress and Dynasty

New Delhi - Sonia Gandhi wants power and Manmohan Singh the prime-ministership. This makes them indispensible to one another. The Ashwani Kumar controversy must be fitted into this grid. And once that is   done, it becomes clear how difficult it is to remove him. This is apart from the fact that once the Union law minister goes, Manmohan Singh comes directly in the firing line, which jeopardizes everything for the Congress president.  By the logic of things, Sonia Gandhi should be a troubled person today. As a mother, she has done everything to advance Rahul Gandhi’s political prospects. But the son is plainly uninterested in doing anything more than now, which amounts to little. He does the odd election campaign, gives pep talk to the Congress youth, runs down dynasticism, but does not follow it to its natural conclusion by quitting politics. Given a choice, Rahul Gandhi would happily make way for sister Priyanka, whose name cropped up once again recently

THE media is very selective in the choice of news

ZEE Extortion Case   Early this year The Hindu (January 21, 2013) carried an article on the so-called Zee ‘extortion’ case in which the news network was alleged to have demanded Rs 100 crore in return for rolling back its campaign against steel tycoon Navin Jindal’s ‘misdemeanours’ in coal block allocations. Sandeep Bhushan , the writer of the article asked: “ Were Sudhir Choudhary and Samir Ahluwalia, the two editors caught on camera allegedly ‘extorting’ money, doing so at the owners’ behest?” After raising some more points Mr Bhushan said: “Of course, the matter is before the Courts and it would be unfair to rush to any judgement.” This was said about few weeks ago. What is the situation today? Which court is hearing the case? Has any judgement been delivered or is it that court proceedings are still on? If a judgement has been delivered, what did it say? The media is silent on this score. Can it be that this is deliberate? The media silence says a lot.
