'Won’t allow special havens for Pandits' : Syed Ali Shah Geelani

Government wants to create special havens in certain parts of J&K: Syed Ali Shah Geelani Opposing any move to rehabilitate Kashmiri Pandits by creating protected settlements in the Valley, radical separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Wednesday claimed certain havens were being sought to be created in certain places in southern, central and northern Kashmir. “Pandits are a part of the Kashmir society and they will always be welcome in their motherland. But, let it be clear that any plan to settle them exclusively in protected colonies would be completely unacceptable to the separatist leadership and the people here,” Mr. Geelani said. The 86-year-old politician condemned the Narendra Modi government’s purported plans to permanently settle the Punjabi and other non-J&K refugees from Pakistan in the State and grant them the status of permanent residents. Caravan of jihadists coming from Afghanistan to liberate Kashmir : Al-Qaida

London :  A chilling new video from the al-Qaida has asked Muslims in Kashmir to emulate "brothers" in Syria and Iraq and wage a violent jihad against India. The video, which includes a statement read by Maulana Asim Umar, a senior leader of al-Qaida's Pakistan cell will definitely have India's security officers worried. The video promises a "caravan of jihadists coming from Afghanistan to liberate Kashmir". The video, titled, "The War Continues: A Statement on Kashmir's Muslims," features an audio sermon by Umar. The video runs footages dating back to 2010 of protests on the roads of Srinagar in which civilians were killed during a standoff with India's security forces. Interestingly, the video addresses Muslims on both sides of the line of control — both on the Indian and Pakistani side as well as to the broader Muslim populations of both countries. In the video, Kashmiri Muslims are urged to join the global jihadi movemen...

India expects Australia to return 900-year-old ‘Dancing Shiva’ statue, other sculptures: Indian High Commissioner

India last Wednesday said it expects Australia to return a 900-year-old ‘Dancing Shiva’ statue and another stone sculpture bought from a disgraced Indian antiquities dealer. “We are satisfied with the steps taken and cooperation extended by the Australian government in response to this issue,” India’s High Commissioner Biren Nanda said in Melbourne. “We had formally requested the return of the statues and currently there is a process which is being followed to resolve the issue. We expect that the statues would be returned to India,” he told PTI in Melbourne. The Canberra-based Indian High Commission had formally requested the return of a 900-year-old Dancing Shiva statue from the National Gallery of Australia and a stone sculpture of the god Ardhanarishvara from the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Following the request of Indian government, the two galleries in March this year “voluntarily removed” the sculptures from public display. Both artefacts were bought ...

Poll data shows large number of Muslims voted for Modi

The skepticism about the Muslim community’s reservations about voting for the BJP and its prime ministerial candidate  Narendra Modi  was laid to rest on Friday when the party went on win all the seven Lok Sabha constituencies of Delhi. Data released by the office of the Delhi chief electoral officer have indicated a reversal in the Muslim community’s support for the Aam Aadmi Party in the National Capital. In the Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency, BJP candidate Harsh Vardhan trounced his AAP rival Ashutosh in Sadar Bazar by 17,623 votes. Likewise, in Ballimaran and Chandni Chowk too, the BJP candidate enjoyed a much larger vote share than Ashutosh. “There is no such thing that any community will be sidelined or marginalised if BJP is in power. We do not believe in such politics,” Harsh Vardhan said. While many spoke about Kapil Sibal continuing to enjoy the minority community’s faith, the poll results told a different tale. The two-time Congress MP, who h...

BJP to promote movies rich in Indian cultural values

The art and culture cell of the BJP is about to make a wing exclusively for developing and promoting films themed on Indian tradition. “We have done the homework for developing  movies that are rich in cultural values and have a strong flavour of Indian traditions. Many movies are released every week, but they are hardly able to portray Indian art and culture. Our attempt will be to showcase  Indian social values through movies,” said Mithlesh Kumar Tripathi, national convenor of the party’s art and culture cell. There has been a lot of degradation, he said, adding that “movies are a powerful mode for disseminating Indian culture. We have a cultural trove. We need to highlight this in the movies. We have already started talking with many artists. The end result would be movies that can bring a cultural awakening.” Citing the example of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, the Bollywood blockbuster of the 90s, he said this was a  movie “which revolved around...

A View : What not to do for the brand new Hindu government

After the Hindu victory with Narendra Modi’s accession to power, what we now have to guard against, is that, instead of an intelligent pro-Hindu policy with lasting positive effects, counterproductive feel-good policies are enacted. From a distance, Modi seems bright enough to ward off these tendencies, but much depends on the people he will surround himself with. At any rate, the internet noise far outweighs the rare forward-looking proposals. All kinds of pampletteers are climbing out of the woodwork to call for policies which amount to banging your head against the wall. For instance, some say “bring an anti-conversion bill”. Such a bill will do nothing at all to stop conversions (fact: in China, the Christian mission is very illegal yet very very successful), but it will provide a strong weapon to the enemies of Hinduism. If you are a mission agent, or if you are a mouse-clicking internet Hindu out to vent his emotions, then do call for an anti-conve...

Modi faces threats from multiple terror groups

BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is under the maximum risk among all VVIP Indian politicians, intelligence officials say. Modi is facing threats from the Lashkar-e-Taeyyba(LeT), Hizbul Mujahideen, Indian Mujahideen (IM) and Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), they say. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the Union Home Ministry has decided to issue a high-security alert to every State where the Gujarat Chief Minister is set to address a rally. The report suggests that a red alert was issued to Uttar Pradesh Police on January 21, two days before Modi’s Gorakhpur rally. The report quoting the red alert said that Hyder Ali alias Abdulla, a IM terrorist, is said to have travelled from Lucknow to Gorakhpur on January 11 to target Modi. Hyder, a resident of Aurangabad in Bihar, is a prime accused in the October 27 Patna blasts. The report further suggests that a threat letter was received in a Gorakhpur mosque on January 16. Congress wants Lata to return Padma award for backing Modi

Senior Congress MLA and Mumbai city Congress president Janardan Chandurkar on Tuesday sparked a row by demanding that artists who publicly praise political leaders should return their Padma awards. Chandurkar has made this irresponsible comment at a public rally in south Mumbai. “The Artists those who are exhibiting support to politicians should give up their Padma awards or else the Government should strip them of their Padma awards,” Chandurkar said in a obvious reference to queen of melody Lata Mangeshkar’s endorsement of Modi for Prime Minister. Reacting sharply to the Congress leader’s statement, BJP spokesperson Nalin S Kholi tweeted, “Modi phobia at its worst. Lata ji praises Modi ji & the Congress demands that her awards should be taken back!” Veteran singer and the queen of melody Lata Mangeshkar had endorsed Narendra Modi as Prime Minister of India.
