NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday criticised Akhilesh Singh Yadav government for issuing "communal" notification promising Re 5 lakhs to riot-affected Muslim families who wanted to relocate away from their villages. The SC said the government could not have issued such a notification favouring people from one religion or community. When the UP government said it will extend the monetary benefit to Hindus too, the court said it is better that the state withdraws such partisan notification. The UP government said it will withdraw the notification, redraft it and issue it afresh extending monetary benefit to all riot-affected families irrespective of their religious affiliation. source: timesofindia
