AAP's Prashant Bhushan bats for lifting of AFSPA in J&K

Now people should beware of such anti-nationals and should not elect such people in forthcoming elections ! - Editor   New Delhi :  Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Prashant Bhushan today batted for the lifting of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Jammu and Kashmir, saying it gave the Army immunity in cases of human rights violation while causing alienation amongst the people. "It is very important for us to win the hearts and minds of the people and prevent alienation. For that, the first thing which needs to be done is to remove AFSPA , which gives Army immunity in human rights violations," Bhushan said in an interview to a TV channel. Army's deployment for internal security purposes should be effected only with the consent of people, except in cases where the rights of minorities need to be protected, he added. Bhushan, however, seemed to have moderated his earlier stand which had him reportedly favouring the separation of Kashmir if that was...

India test-fires nuclear-capable Prithvi-II missile

India on Tuesday test-fired its indigenously developed Prithvi-II missile, which is capable of carrying 500 kg to 1,000 kg of warheads and has a strike range of 350 km, from a test range at Chandipur near here. The test was carried out as part of a user trial by the Army. The surface-to-surface missile was test fired from a mobile launcher in salvo mode from launch complex-3 of the Integrated Test Range at about 0948 hrs. "The missile was randomly chosen from the production stock and the entire launch activities were carried out by the specially formed Strategic Force Command (SFC) and monitored by the scientists of DRDO as part of training exercise," the sources said. "The missile trajectory was tracked by DRDO radars, electro-optical tracking systems and telemetry stations located along the coast of Odisha," they said. "The downrange teams onboard the ship deployed near the designated impact point in the Bay of Bengal monitored the terminal...

Equations and Symbolism in Hindu Scriptures

Equations and Symbolism   in Hindu Scriptures The use of symbols-letters of the alphabet to denote unknowns, and equations are the foundations of the science of algebra. The Hindus were the first to make systematic use of the letters of the alphabet to denote unknowns. They were also the first to classify and make a detailed study of equations. Thus they may be said to have given birth to the moder n science of algebra. The great Indian mathematician Bhaskaracharya (1150 C.E.) produced extensive treatises on both plane and spherical trigonometry and algebra, and his works contain remarkable solutions of problems which were not discovered in Europe until the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. He preceded Newton by over 500 years in the discovery of the principles of differential calculus. click here -  http://is.gd/ clcls_250years_in_india A.L. The Elements and the Mind

It has often  been said that much of our spiritual journey is an attempt to tame the ‘monkey mind’, as the mind is often compared with the actions of a monkey-jumping from one thing to another.  It would be true to say that the serious spiritual work does not begin until one has tamed the ‘monkey mind’, at least to some degree. But often  little thought is given to the relationship of the elements within the field of the mind as often we are focused on what we perceive to be the highest teaching or essence of Divinity; yet, by understanding the elements within the mind one can actually come closer toward their goal of the highest teaching or essence of Divinity. To grow  in spiritual realization one must realize that the elements have a higher (para) and lower (apara) manifestation within the mind; with the key being to cultivate the higher and reduce the lower manifestation of the elements.  For the purposes of this study, para could be compared to harm...

Harvard Yoga Scientists Find Proof of Meditation Benefit

Scientists are getting close to proving what yogis have held to be true for centuries — yoga and meditation can ward off stress and disease. John Denninger , a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School, is leading a  five-year study  on how the ancient practices affect genes and brain activity in the chronically stressed. His latest work follows a study he and others published earlier this year showing how so-called mind-body techniques can switch on and off some  genes  linked to stress and immune function. While hundreds of studies have been conducted on the mental health benefits of yoga and meditation, they have tended to rely on blunt tools like participant questionnaires, as well as heart rate and blood pressure monitoring. Only recently have neuro-imaging and genomics technology used in Denninger’s latest studies allowed scientists to measure physiological changes in greater detail. “There is a true biological effect,” said Denninger, director of resear...
