Report of HJS lecture for Ekal Vidyalaya teachers

From our correspondent

Chennai :
Hindu Janajgruti Samiti was invited to conduct a lecture for the teachers of Ekal Vidyalayas run by Vishwan Hindu Parishad during their yearly workshop. A 2 hour lecture was conducted on 13.5.12 (Sunday) at Kanagammal Chathiram, a village near Thiruttani.

Mr..Prabhakaran and Mrs. Uma Ravichandran of HJS conducted this session on simple Dharmacharan, the do’s and don’ts of our culture and western culture with the help of tamil flex. At the end the importance of Kuladevata chanting and Datta chanting was told. Around 40 young dedicated women and men from various villages attended the workshop.

Highlights :

  • The participants noted down all the points sincerely and also asked questions to clarify their doubts.
  • The Organisers told that although all these points were covered over a period of time by them, the essence was given in just 2 hours,  along with scientific explanation so that it gets reinforced in their minds.
  • On the way back to Chennai, we visited 2 centres in 2 different villages where ekal vidyalaya was going on to have a practical experience of how these messages reach the children. These single teacher schools are run daily from 5-8 pm. The children were very enthusiastic and they boldly narrated Thirukkural, slokas, poems, stories etc.  A drawing of Shri Shiva in Dhyanavastha was kept in one class which was drawn by a student of sixth std.
  • The organisers told that such classes do the monumental job of weaning away the village people from Christian missionaries who otherwise keep them engaged through out the weekends.
  • They insisted that with our participation regularly for the teachers, the message will reach so many villages.
  • In one village, the ekal vidyalaya teachers was busy preparing tea for us. The children took initiative on their own and spontaneously told  whatever was learnt in the classes without waiting for their teacher. The teacher gave a hand made bunch of plastic flowers which she made on her own to HJS members . Genuine warmth and affection could be experienced in the midst of those village people.
  • The organisers invited us for the next week session to be conducted in two different villages for the teachers.

The concept of 33 koti devata in Hinduism!

The concept of 33 koti devata in Hinduism: The Vedas refer to not 33 crore Devatas but 33 types (Koti in Sanskrit) of Devatas. They are explained in Shatpath Brahman and many other scriptures very clearly. "Yasya Trayastrinshad Devaa Ange Sarve Samaahitaa, Skamma Tam Bruhi Katamah Swideva Sah”. ~(Atharva Veda 10-7-13) Which means: with God’s influence, these thirty-three (supporting devta) sustain the world. In Brhadaranyaka Upanishad while discussing Brahman, Yajnavalkya is asked how many gods are there. He says that there are three hundred and three and three thousand and three gods. When the question is repeated? He says, thirty three. When the question is again repeated he says, six. Finally, after several repetitions he says ONE. (Chapter I, hymn 9, verse 1) The number 33 comes from the number of Vedic gods explained by Yajnavalkya in Brhadaranyaka Upanishad – the eight Vasus, the eleven Rudras, the twelve Adityas, Indra and Prajapati. (Chapter I, hymn 9, verse 2...
