Belgaum (Karnataka) :
On 14th February 2012, many unpleasant incidents took place in 4 metro cities in the name of celebrating Valentine Day wherein there was reporting of terrible incidents like 202 cases of molestation of women, 242 accidents due to drunken driving, 56 cases of abduction of women, 318 cases of suicide, 113 cases of murder, 132 persons being lost, sale of liquor worth Rs. 2800 crores and sale of drugs worth Rs. 3600 crores. This statistics is only from 4 metro cities; then what about the cases happening all over the country ? Where is the need for such terrible ‘lovers’ day (Valentine Day)? We are opposing it because the country is facing such huge loss in just one day. The above statement was made by Mr. Pramod Mutalik, the national President of Sriram Sena in a press conference.

In the press conference held at ‘Kannad Sahitya Bhavan’, Mr. Ghorpade of ‘Yoga Vedanta Samiti’ supported by H. H. Asaramji bapu, Mr. Girish Kulkarni of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and Mr. Ramakant Konduskar of Sriram Sena were also present. Even pro-Hindu organizations like VHP, Shiv Sena, Bajarang Dal, Hindu Jagaran Vedike, HJS and Warakari Sect have expressed their opposition.

Mr. Pramod Mutalik said, “We have nothing against love. It is not that only young men and women can express their love; but there should be love for parents, brother-sister, country and Dharma. Expressing love only for one day is of no use. Hindu culture teaches us to behave with love and respect with everyone. We have, therefore, organized a vehicle rally to create awareness amongst youth and a program of performing ‘puja’ of parents. Those, who are selling gifts and greetings cards, should realize that they should not take youth on wrong path only for own financial gains.” Handbills prepared by HJS on the said topic were distributed on the occasion and VCD was shown by ‘Yoga Vedanta Samiti’ on performing ‘Mata-Pita (parents) pujan’.

The concept of 33 koti devata in Hinduism!

The concept of 33 koti devata in Hinduism: The Vedas refer to not 33 crore Devatas but 33 types (Koti in Sanskrit) of Devatas. They are explained in Shatpath Brahman and many other scriptures very clearly. "Yasya Trayastrinshad Devaa Ange Sarve Samaahitaa, Skamma Tam Bruhi Katamah Swideva Sah”. ~(Atharva Veda 10-7-13) Which means: with God’s influence, these thirty-three (supporting devta) sustain the world. In Brhadaranyaka Upanishad while discussing Brahman, Yajnavalkya is asked how many gods are there. He says that there are three hundred and three and three thousand and three gods. When the question is repeated? He says, thirty three. When the question is again repeated he says, six. Finally, after several repetitions he says ONE. (Chapter I, hymn 9, verse 1) The number 33 comes from the number of Vedic gods explained by Yajnavalkya in Brhadaranyaka Upanishad – the eight Vasus, the eleven Rudras, the twelve Adityas, Indra and Prajapati. (Chapter I, hymn 9, verse 2
