Shame on the Government which
forces a Kashmiri Hindu Pandit, also an Indian citizen to go on 'fast
unto death hunger strike' for delay or non-completion of valid demands
of Kashmiri Hindu Pandits !
Kashmir Hindu Foundation Inc, (KHF) is deeply concerned to hear news reports about deteriorating condition of the Chairman, All Parties Migrant Coordination Committee (APMCC) Mr. Vinod Pandit who is sitting on fast unto death for past 13 days at Porbandar in Gujarat-India in support of demands of Kashmiri Hindus.
Some of the demands include, dialogue with Pakistan for facilitating visit to Shardha Peeth Temple in Pak Occupied Kashmir-POK, probe into the multi-crore temple/shrines land encroachment in Kashmir and Passing of the pending Kashmir Temples and Shrines Bill in J&K Legislative Assembly.
These demands have been raised from time to time with the government but unfortunately the government has ignored the sentiments of the minority Kashmiri Hindu community in Kashmir. KHF strongly demands that immediate steps be initiated towards fulfilling the charter of demands submitted to both Central and State governments. The State Government has failed to provide safety and security to religious shrines of Hindus in Kashmir and it is their duty to fulfill its moral obligations towards the minority community in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
It is unfortunate that a peaceful community has to resort to such extreme measures in order to get attention from the government. The community cannot sit silent and let one of its soldier sacrifice his life because of callous attitude of a government that failed to provide basic security to its loyal citizens, only because they were Hindus. Omar led government in the state and the UPA Government in the center cannot continue to sit silent over the very sensitive issue of Kashmiri Hindus and test their patience.
We will also submit a memorandum to the U.S. Department of State to exert its influence on the Indian government on the humanitarian demands of Kashmiri Hindus.

Ahmedabad Porbandar observed a bandh on Sunday in support of the indefinite hunger strike by a leader of a displaced Kashmiri Pandits body.
The bandh was supported by the Porbandar District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, besides the Porbandar Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
All Parties’ Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC) chairman Vinod Pandit is on an indefinite fast in Porbandar since January 30 in support of the outfit’s demands, including dialogue with Pakistan for facilitating visits to Shardha Peeth Temple in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
“The Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir government should consider our six-point charter of demands,” APMCC national spokesperson Bharati told PTI.
Other major demands of the outfit are establishment of a Shardha Peeth University in Jammu and Kashmir, passing of the pending Kashmir Temples and Shrines Bill by the J&K Assembly and a special employment package for non-migrant Hindus.
The Bill seeks to set up a board to preserve temples and shrines.

Porbandar (Gujarat) : Porbandar on Sunday observed a bandh to show solidarity with Kashmiri Pandits who have been agitating to press for their demands.
The second phase of the agitation under the aegis of Jammu-based organisation, All Parties Migrants Co-ordination Committee (APMCC), began on January 30. On Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary, the forum’s chairman, Vinod Pandit, began his fast unto death at Sudhama Chowk, close to Kirti Mandir, the ancestral home of Gandhi, declaring his resolve that he would not break his fast till the demands were not met.
A promise to this effect was made by RS Chib, cabinet minister in the Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) government, when Pandit had undertaken a ten-day fast-unto-death in October 2011 as part of the first phase of agitation in Jammu.
APMCC’s demands include dialogue with Pakistan for permission to visit Sharda Peeth temple at Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, setting up of Sharda Peeth University in J&K, probe into encroachment of Hindu shrines and temples in J&K, passing of the pending bills on Hindu religious shrines, one-time compensation for over-aged migrant Hindu youth and special employment package for non-migrant Hindus in the Valley.
“Today (Sunday) is the 12th day of Pandit’s fast and he has already lost more than 9 kg. But he is still in a fighting mood. We felt the government of J&K would not be so insensitive to the fast in the distant state. This has not only angered Hindus in J&K but even the residents of Porbandar, who have been supporting us. They burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah two days ago and participated in rail-roko agitation on Saturday.
On Sunday, Porbandar residents observed total bandh,” King Bharati, spokesperson of APMCC, told DNA on phone from Porbandar. In response to a query, Bharati said that Gujarat minister Babubhai Bokhiria, who represents Porbandar in the assembly, had visited them and expressed full solidarity with them. Angered at the insensitivity of the J&K government towards Pandit’s fast, Kashmiri Pandits organised a rally at Jammu Press Club on Saturday, the spokesperson added.
According to Bharati, the implementation of all the demands, except the one relating to dialogue with Pakistan, remained with the J&K government. If the state and Union governments fail to respond to their demands, they would launch similar hunger strikes in various parts of the country, he added.

Ahmedabad : Gujarat Agriculture Minister Babu Bokhiria on Friday met Vinod Pandit, the chairman of All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC), whose indefinite hunger strike entered third day today in Porbandar.
Pandit had launched his fast on January 30 to press for six demands of Kashmiri Hindus, including that of having a dialogue with Pakistan for facilitating visit to Shardha Peeth temple in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The APMCC chairman started the strike after the Jammu and Kashmir government as well as the Centre reportedly failed to meet their six-point charter of demands.
"We are very grateful to the minister as he paid a visit and enquired about the health of Vinod Pandit," APMCC national spokesperson King Bharati told reporters.
"The minister gave us a patient hearing and assured us that he will forward our memorandum of demands to the President, Prime Minister, J&K Chief Minister, Governor as well as Gujarat Chief Minister. He extended state government's full support to our genuine cause," Bharati said.
Many BJP activists have pledged their support to Kashmiri Hindus and APMCC's demands, he added.
"A team of doctors conducted a medical check-up and took blood samples of Pandit. Even though he has lost 2 kgs weight since he began his hunger strike and has become a little weak, he is fine," Bharati said.
APMCC Kashmir in-charge Sandeep Bhat expressed hope that their demands would be soon fulfilled.
The J&K government must come out with a time-frame to resolve the issue immediately, he demanded and accused the government of ignoring the sentiments of Kashmiri Hindus, resulting in disappointment among the community.
Establishment of Shardha Peeth University in J&K; probe into the multi-crore temple/shrines land encroachment in Kashmir, passage of the pending Kashmir Temples and Shrines Bill in J&K Legislative Assembly; one time compensation for over-aged migrant Kashmiri Hindu youth and special employment package for non-migrant Hindus of Kashmir Valley are some of their other demands.
