Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh) :
A local court has directed the Kushaiguda police to register a criminal
case against Congress president Sonia Gandhi for allegedly cheating
people of the Telangana region and "having dual citizenship" on
different names.
On January 29, BJP leader Satish Agarwal
had filed a private petition in the II Metropolitan Magistrate's court
of Malkajgiri alleging that Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, during her 2004
election campaign speech in Karimnagar, had duped the four crore people
of Telangana by promising them a separate state if they vote for the
party. The promise was also reiterated in the Congress' election
manifesto. Party leader from Rajahmundry U Arun Kumar had worked as a
translator to Sonia Gandhi during the public meeting, the petitioner
said.
"Though the Congress was voted to power
for two consecutive terms, Sonia Gandhi has not fulfilled her promise
and thereby duped the Telangana people. Thousands of innocents committed
suicide due to this cheating," Agarwal said.
The petitioner also alleged that Sonia
Gandhi was holding dual citizenship (Indian and Italian) on different
names. "While being an Italian citizen with name Antonia Maino, the
Congress chief has acquired an Indian voter ID card and citizenship in
the name of Sonia Gandhi, which is illegal," Agarwal stated in the
petition.
