A statue of the #Hindu deity Lord Shiva was immersed in floods on the Ganges River but was able to remain upright despite houses, bridges and buildings all collapsing. The Ganges is one of the most sacred rivers to the Hindu religion and is the longest in India.
Treacherous floods and heavy rainfall followed the monsoon that hit Northern #India on Saturday night and is predicted to continue over the next few days. Authorities say at least 80 people have died and entire houses, bridges and buildings have collapsed.
Somehow, a statue of the Hindu Lord Shiva has been able to withstand the force in the Ganges River. #Uttarakhand, the area most severely damaged, is sometimes referred to as "Land of the Gods" for the amount of Hindu religious sites in one small area. The #river itself is considered a holy site.
