Muzaffarnagar riots : Police, Army personnel patrol violence-hit areas, toll climbs to 41

RV Singh and his family had to walk over 5 km from the railway station in Muzaffarnagar and plead with the Police to allow him to go to his home in this curfew-clamped district. “I walked for over 5 km from Muzaffarnagar station. The Police stopped us and we had to plead so that we reach home,” said Singh, who was returning from Mathura along with his wife Sujata and five-year-old daughter.
The usually bustling streets and junctions of this violence-hit district like Shiv Chowk, Bhagat Singh Road and Roorkee Road wore a deserted look with only Police and Army personnel seen.   Khairunissa of Lakh Bavdi village in Shamli district has lost three of her relatives. “I have lost three of my relatives and 11 people from my village have died so far,” she said. She was brought to the hospital along with 10-year-old Azra and four-year-old Aksa – both suffering deep injuries on their hands and stomachs.

PM speaks to UP CM
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday spoke to UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on violence in Muzaffarnagar.
Manmohan Singh condemned the violence in Uttar Pradesh and expressed grief and shock at the loss of innocent lives.
The PM assured the UP chief minister that the Centre will extend all required assistance to the state government in tackling the situation.
Mulayam meets Akhilesh
With the situation still tense in Muzaffarnagar, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday held a meeting with Akhilesh Yadav and senior officers to take stock of the situation.
Yadav sought to know from the officers why the situation could not be controlled yet and the measures taken for maintaining law and order in Muzaffarnagar.
The meeting holds significance after governor BL Joshi's report to the Centre in which he gave details of the incident and also lapses on part of the government.
"Mulayam is serious about what happened in Muzaffarnagar ... the incident is condemnable. Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is himself monitoring the situation till 2am in the night," SP spokesman and Cabinet minister Rajendra Chowdhury told reporters after the meeting.
Asked whether officers are not paying heed to the chief minister, Chowdhury said, "No officer has the courage to defy orders of the CM."
Claiming that opposition was working in an undemocratic way, Chowdhury alleged they were involved in inciting and fuelling passions and added that demand for imposition of President's rule by BJP, Congress and BSP was "unjustified".
"We stopped 84 kosi yatra and thwarted attempt to communalize atmosphere of the state ... In Muzaffarnagar incident also, action will be taken against those who had taken law into their hands," Chowdhury said.
Chief secretary Javed Usmani, DGP Devraj Nagar and principal secretary, home, RM Srivastava also attended the meeting.
Mulayam had on Sunday held a meeting in which he had pulled up senior officials for their failure in taking timely action to check the violence.
When asked why permission for panchyat (called by a particular community on Saturday) was given when the situation was tense there, Chowdhury said this would be looked into.
"We will look into as to how panchayat was held there ... The entire incident will be probed," he said.

Muzaffarnagar riots : IBN7 journalist killed, violence after Kawal incident continues

At least two persons, including journalist of a TV news channel, were killed on Saturday and several others were injured in fresh clashes between members of two communities in the district, where tension has been simmering since violence in Kawal village ten days ago.
IBN7 journalist Rajesh Verma and a photographer hired by police, Israr, were killed in the violence in separate parts of the district.
The incident comes shortly after Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that incidents of communal violence have increased in the country and cautioned all States to remain alert and foil any attempt to disturb peace ahead of the general elections. “Communal violence incidents have increased since last year. While 410 incidents occurred in the country last year, this year, till now, 451 incidents have taken place,” he told reporters in New Delhi.
The tension initially brewed up when three persons were killed on August 27 over a dispute which has now culminated into a communal rift between two communities.
The village had witnessed a horrific series of events after two girls, returning back home with their kin Gaurav from college, were allegedly molested by a local resident Shahnawaz. Gaurav first tried to oppose Shahnawaz’s act but finally decided to go home silently.
After sometime, Gaurav returned with his friend on bike and allegedly attacked Shahnawaz with sharp weapon. Meanwhile, hearing Shahnawaz’s cries, his neighbours rushed to his rescue. They nabbed the two youths and beat them mercilessly to death. When Shahnawaz was taken to hospital, he was also declared dead by the doctors.
After the three deaths, tension prevailed in the area and incidences of violence have denied to end.
During the fresh violence, a photographer was beaten to death in Sekeda village by a group of people returning from a meeting, police sources said.
Shinde said all States have been alerted in view of recent incidents and he has personally called up Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday and discussed the subject.
In a related incident, five persons were injured when members of two communities pelted stones at each other in Basiakla village. In Ilmanspur village, a mob set afire a vehicle.
Security had been tightened in view of Naglabadhod meeting and prohibitory orders imposed in the area, police said.
Several people had participated in the first meeting held in the aftermath of Kawal violence despite a ban imposed by the district authorities.
Meanwhile, crime branch on Saturday arrested ex-Jansath block head, Virender Singh, for an alleged provocative speech during the last meeting on August 31.
Singh is cousin of Shashank Shekhar Singh, who was former Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Secretary in the previous Mayawati Government in the State.
According to DSP JR Joshi, the ex-block head was arrested for allegedly participating in an “unauthorised meeting” while prohibitory orders were in force in the area.
DGP Deo Raj Nagar said the Government has formed a Special Task Force to investigate the Kawal incident.
“Some elements are trying to create communal tension in the region. The STF will be helpful to normalise the situation. No one would be allowed to breach peace in the area,” he said.

They said the video wrongly claims that the incident is of Kawal village in Muzaffarnagar where on August 27 two persons were beaten to death by locals after they allegedly killed a youth from the minority community.
The video is old and has no connection with the Kawal village incident, the police clarified.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Swapnil Mamgain said one Shivam Kumar downloaded the video from Youtube and posted it on Facebook, asking people to see what is going on in Muzaffarnagar.

The Assistant SP said they have also sought details about Shivam Kumar who downloaded the video. He added that after the FIR was lodged, some people have deleted the video from their account.
MLA Som said a youth in his office had only liked the video and did not share it with anyone. "I don't know why have the police dragged my name in the case. I came to know about it yesterday. No policemen has contacted me yet," he said.
On August 27, according to a complaint lodged with police, one Gaurav and his cousin Sachin of Malikpura village attacked Shahnawaz of Kawal village with knives after latter passed lewd remarks on their two female cousins. Shahnawaz suffered grievous injuries in the attack. While locals rushed him to hospital, others caught hold of Sachin and Gaurav and lynched them. Shahnawaz died during treatment.
Two separate cases have been lodged. Seven persons have been named for the murder of Gaurav and Sachin while eight have been booked for Shahnawaz's murder.

The concept of 33 koti devata in Hinduism!

The concept of 33 koti devata in Hinduism: The Vedas refer to not 33 crore Devatas but 33 types (Koti in Sanskrit) of Devatas. They are explained in Shatpath Brahman and many other scriptures very clearly. "Yasya Trayastrinshad Devaa Ange Sarve Samaahitaa, Skamma Tam Bruhi Katamah Swideva Sah”. ~(Atharva Veda 10-7-13) Which means: with God’s influence, these thirty-three (supporting devta) sustain the world. In Brhadaranyaka Upanishad while discussing Brahman, Yajnavalkya is asked how many gods are there. He says that there are three hundred and three and three thousand and three gods. When the question is repeated? He says, thirty three. When the question is again repeated he says, six. Finally, after several repetitions he says ONE. (Chapter I, hymn 9, verse 1) The number 33 comes from the number of Vedic gods explained by Yajnavalkya in Brhadaranyaka Upanishad – the eight Vasus, the eleven Rudras, the twelve Adityas, Indra and Prajapati. (Chapter I, hymn 9, verse 2...
