In an analogy of the missing files of Coal Ministry, at least 45 important files related to policy matters and industrial projects have reportedly gone missing from the Environment Ministry (MoEF).
According to a report published in DNA, most of these files belong to the period when Jayanthi Natarajan and Veerappa Moily were in-charge of the Ministry.
It further said that the officials of the premier probe agency CBI have also met the babus of the Environment Ministry twice in April and according to the sources, they are again expected to meet them this month.
It is also being said that the number of missing files could go up considerably.
In an apparent bid to brush the matter under carpet, an official of the Ministry has reportedly said that the missing files would not affect any major policy decision or Ministry’s action on any industrial group.
He also denied that the CBI has been probing into the matter of missing files, saying that they just wanted to know about the delay in processing of files, and the alleged corrupt practices prevalent in the Ministry.
Moreover, sources in CBI are believed to have said that a formal probe into the matter can be started after the election, the report said.
